A fine evening. I was lying down texting my frndz. So many replies beeped in my mobile.
Before that let me tell u ....lik many of the ppl here am an engineer too. Luckily got placed. But still waiting for my company to call me, and so is my current status.
During college i always wanted it to end. Not that i was bored of it, just that i wanted to lay down with a free head so idle that i have no tension to think of. But how long is it going to last???? In my case not more than a week. Boredom hit me hard. I decided to take up a job.
Now starts the real story.
My first step into the so called OUTSIDE WORLD. I went in search of a job. I dint get into BPO's for i thought its guys stuff maybe coz most of them were in night shifts. I tried a simple part of lecturing. Confident enough of getting it, i applied.
I got the reply the very next day. Quick enough it was but hard enough for me to digest. They dint want me to take in engg clg....instead suggested me in a polytechnic. My story was just this short and simple.
I texted all this to a frnd of mine. But the replies were even worse than i imagined.
I got a reply something lik dis " Y did i take up engineering? People laugh at me when they learn am an engineer. I wasted my life doing this course. Professionals are not treated professionally anymore."
Hard to listen. But these words were a scream from an engineering student who has set out to this outside world just in search of a job. Wanna know what made that person say so????
Read on..i ll tell u his story.
Well dressed, smart looking, file in hand, full of confidence, more enthu than ever...all set to attend an interview. Reached the venue on time. Lot many like him were there too. A guy spoke up to him "Hay dude..What are u doin?" Very proudly he replied "Finished my engineering. Looking for a job".
To this the guy started laughing. The other around smiling.
Curious to know the reason, he asked " what makes u laugh at this??"
The guy said "Dude, we are all Arts students. Companies ask for Arts and Diploma students not Engineers."
That was hard to digest. But the fact is...Engineers need to be paid more than an Arts and diploma student.Just becoz its a professional course. So they prefer no engg.
This sad part doesnt stop here. It worsens when u r an engg from Tamil Nadu.
Like Bill Gates said "One day, every house in this world will have computer with Microsoft running in it".
Something similar happened here....not similar something more than just similar happened....
" An engineer in every street....no no....2 engineers in every house." 200 and odd engineering colleges, more than 5 universities in just a state.!!!
Is an engineer really valued????
Govt gave 250 colleges....did it give dat many jobs????
It gave education loans to all students....gud job!!!
But did the Govt realise how ll dat student repay it???
I write this with utter disheartenment....
Like a grievance from a poor farmers son.
Loan on his head....responsibilities on his shoulder...expectations lurking....still wandering helpless.

well said faizu.. Really even for a basic computer work too ,they are saying ur not eligible..
ReplyDeleteGood comparison btw bill gates speech and Tamil nadu's addiction to Engineering.. Like all other Engineering graduates i Regretted ma decision to take up Engineering :( Hope young kids would open thr eyes to look for othr options other than Engineering..
ReplyDeleteIt depends ..arts coll students are not eligible for most of the IT companies.. only few are taken in, if you compare der situation ours is 1000 times better... It is like how a medical student can't get into a software company ..every stream n course has its own vale ...we are more bothered about the sal, tats y we are not preffered in most of the company..the best way is we should change our mind set abt sal ...and people should prefer other than engineering also!!! :) anyway m proud 2 be an Engineer :)
ReplyDeletedeeps..arts clg student r prefered in IT companies ofcourse. They r preferred so they can be paid less.
ReplyDeleteBut big companies want to maintain their standard so they take us professionals else they would prefer arts students too.
4lac spend panni padichittu oru decent sal kuda yethir pakka kudatha??? :p
